Were any girls given more than 6 strokes of the cane/slipper?and what about using the slipper and cane as the same punishment?and in the case of male teachers, did some girls have their bum felt up between strokes etc? —————————— You will note that the lady’s own account (allegedly) lacks some detail. However feel free to imagine her bent over, Roman Catholic school traditional schoolgirl kilt folded back, while the headmaster delivers 8 agonizing strokes of the cane across the seat of her knickers. Probably not what you term, ahem, ‘bum feeling up’ though as there were two other staff members present (allegedly). Doubtless, this profusion of witnesses was to mark both the seriousness of the offense and the uniqueness of the event, the first girl to be caned in the ...
I am fortunate to have enduring “friendships” with two “never too old” ladies who have a passion for realistic school CP. One is 75 and the other is 72.But age doesn’t come into it. What really counts is personality and a mutual interest – dedication even – to this thing we do. A mental chemistry if you like. Sadly the pandemic has halted our school sessions but, when the coast is clear, they are bound to resume. Some of us are, after all, lifelong enthusiasts. So, keep up the good work folks and, hey, “let’s be extra careful out there!” ————————————– . I did have some limited experience. When I was in my late 40s,I did have a charming more mature lady pupil who admitted to 59 but I strongly suspect may have missed out a few summers in her calculations. She was on the petite side and v...
A quick question. Did any of your teachers or masters ‘run up’ from a short distance to add more force to the strokes of the cane?Does it actually hurt much more overall, I’m guessing it would matter how padded the backside would be also. When I had a caning, I could only wear thin trousers. I certainly felt the cane as if I didn’t have any trousers on! Im guessing it depends on how whippy the cane is also, the length of the cane, and thickness too? ————————————– My teachers did not use a runup. There was no space even if they were so inclined. It is possible some stepped forward as they swung the cane. Being a well behaved and studious boy my personal experience is limited. I recall no reports on the matter but details of standard practice would likely not be commented upon and you were not...
Who did not manage to keep a stiff upper lip when punished —————————— I was genuinely scared when I knew I was to receive a caning or a slippering. I have seen boys waiting outside the headmaster’s study facing a caning looking frightened but trying to put a brave face on it. I remember once missing a prefect’s detention only realising on the bus home that I had forgotten. I spent a very uncomfortable evening knowing that 3 strokes of the cane awaited me the next day. I tried to be brave but knowing your backside will be decorated with 3 wheals which will leave a bruise was not funny. —————————– I didn’t at primary school when encountering Miss B’s hard hand vigorously applied multiple times to the bare upper thigh for the first time. And nor did several other boys and girls in the q...
I remember our school had a rule that if you could only be caned twice per school term, one before half term holiday and one after. If you had been caned it would be a suspension so the maximum number of times you could be caned would be 6 per school year.Just wondering if any other schools had a similar rule? ——————————– I think there was an unwritten rule that if you were caned and repeated the offence you would get a worse or different punishment like a letter home or suspension, but I never heard of an actual limit. In the caning scene in Kes the headmaster mentions that he knows caning does no good, and fully expects the same boys to be back in his office before the weeks is out… So some boys were getting the cane twice a week! But that was only one one on the palm for smoking… differe...
I am referring here to proper rattan canings, boys only, on the buttocks and laid on hard. “Prime” can mean: I have long been puzzled by the apparent youth of those who have reported being punished in the Corporal Punishment Survey thread and elsewhere in this forum. In NZ most boys were not exposed to the cane until the 3rd form . A few were first exposed in the 1st and 2nd forms in so-called intermediate schools. Not all districts had such schools and not all intermediates caned. Hands were usually strapped at primary school. “Turds” (newbies, freshers) had come from small schools to a much bigger one where they were at the bottom of the social hierarchy. They were intimidated by the change and generally feared the cane having been fed a lot of hyperbole by all and sundry...
The Dragon in the Garden by Reginald Maddox. United Kingdom. 1968. The book is written in the first person as the memories of a boy named Jimmy Stewart who is 13 and has never been to school. His somewhat unconvential artist parents have taught him at home, but after a fight, his father decides he needs to go to school to learn how to deal with other people and he is sent to the local all boys comprehensive. On his first day, his new classmates tell him that the best way to get along with their strict Form Master, is to make sure you call him “Charles” and never “Charlie.” When Jimmy does this, he is asked to identify the boy who told him this and when he does so (with no real understanding that you don’t tell on other people) that boy receives two strokes of the cane on his hands in ...
How common were over-the-knee spankings in Primary Schools or even in Secondary Schools? Was it administered by classroom teachers or headmistress/headmaster, was it by hand or slipper? Did anyone experience or witness them? Would they have been recorded in a Punishment Book? —————————————— Personally, I never witnessed over-the-knee corporal punishment, at school or anywhere else. There was a fair amount of SCP at my primary school, but it was conducted with the recipient in a standing or bending posture with feet on the floor. In the younger ages though there was usually an element of restraint, generally trapped under a teacher’s arm. It is however rumored that the Forum search engine brings up around 1380 instances of contributions containing the words ‘over the knee’ and i...
I have alluded to the fact that this was common in the Christian Brother’s school I sttended during the sixties. I was wondering what other members experininces were. ———————— At my all boys grammar there was a fine distinction between bad work which was the result of inability and bad work which was due to poor effort. The former was generally accepted; the latter was met with a peremptory strapping. We did have one young science master who set the “whack mark” as he called it – anyone equaling or falling below the whack mark got whacked. ————————- I remember short oral history tests with written answers. when I was a first and second former. The mantra was “last in the test gets six of the best” although to be honest this was relatively lighthearted. Itwas f...
I remembered an occasion when a classmate used the expression “He can’t aim”. I imagine he was talking about a visit to the Headmaster, though I don’t recall him being in distress, so the visit might have been some days earlier (the incident took place in 1964, I think). It’s strange, because our Head had plenty of experience, though I don’t think he used the cane particularly frequently. But compare this with an incident mentioned in the autobiography of the actor David Niven, “The Moon’s a Balloon”, when Niven recalled getting twelve strokes of the cane at Stowe School for cheating in a public examination (this was in the 1920s). I no longer have the book to give exact quotes, but I recall phrases like “his beatings were rare but legendary”, and — when the damage was inspected that night...
I recently initiated some discussion of school detention and this is in a similar vein. I read somewhere else someone recalled being sent out of class for misbehaving and that triggered a lot of memories, mainly in my junior school years. There was a sort of sliding scale of responses if you were too chatty or too disruptive to the work of others in the class. I suppose the initial response was to get told off and warned; ignore that and then it depended on how serious your disruptive behaviour was deemed to be (and to some extent, the general level of misbehaviour that impacted on how much change in overall class behaviour was required). First up was getting sent to stand in a corner or (especially once they ran out of corners) perhaps facing the wall – nose on the blackboard sometimes....
Has anyone had stories of either yourself or someone being punished on a school trip for misbehaving, especially those which involve overnight stays? My experience relates back to the early 1980s and a school trip to London. It was when I was in the fifth form and about thirty of us went on a mid-week break to London. For many of us it was our first visit to the capital and to spend four nights away with our school friends. We were from a mixed-gender comprehensive school in Northern England and the coach journey took almost seven hours. On arrival, we were given our room keys (sharing 2/3 to a room) and after unpacking ate dinner at around 7 pm, afterwards we were allowed free time in the hotel communal areas to ourselves and were allowed to purchase soft drinks from the bar. We had to be...
