Hello everyone, only me again! Another question for you all. Was it common to ‘chalk’ the cane so the accuracy of the stroke could be made? Or were there similar ways? I’m guessing also practice and a good eye made it easier anyway to not use chalking.
How many strokes could be landed in the same position?
I’ve heard of the ‘5 bar gate’ also, plus one where the the stroke lands just below the buttocks so when you sit or walk, it isn’t pleasant. A real reminder.
We had a master at my school who sometimes (reputedly!) used to chalk the seat of a boy’s trousers, and then whack the slipper down hard in attempt to remove the chalk mark.
